How to “Thank You”
If you want to get your team's attention in a serious way, thank them for the specific thing they've done. If you want to connect with your spouse or your kids or your parents, thank them: "You did this thing that was amazing. Thank you."
The Thief of Joy?
The appreciation of good is always anchored in memory of the bad. What if comparison is not the thief of joy, but the key to it? What if the vehicle to happiness is moving toward comparison?
The Twigs
When you picture a fireplace fire, you envision the logs. The roaring fire. But you don’t imagine one of the most important parts of a fire: twigs.
Almost nobody thinks of twigs and certainly nobody buys them. In fact, you can’t even buy twigs at the store.
But when you build a fire, the logs are certainly important, but just as important are the twigs.
Even Better Than the Real Thing?
AI is coming.
How do we protect against it?
Do we protect against it? That is, are we able to stop it?
In what ways is AI similar to other technology?
In what ways is it different?
Your First Drafts
Your eyes, ears, and hands will change as you go. So it’s absolutely the time to practice. But it’s absolutely not the time to show everyone your practice.
The importance of the first draft cannot be overstated. (The fact that your first draft will be bad will dissuade many people from attempting that first draft.) Go ahead and write it! But hide and watch until you’re well beyond your first draft.
Wait until you’re close to hitting terminal velocity.
How Will I Know?
In your life, how will you know if you're on the right track to making some big changes? How will you know if you're on the path to something bigger and deeper?
So many of us are living days where we know what to expect all day. We're living a changeless existence.
There is No Week 16
Happiness, contentment, and serenity must have immediacy to them. It must be attainable today, or else it is utter tyranny. If happiness is always somewhere else, it is unattainable. The spiritual tools of: "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" must be at hand and in the toolbox or else they're just cruel.
The Worst Thing about Life
Your success is your ability to focus. Maybe that's the most insidious part of social media. It stretches you. It stretches your attention span and your empathy to places it perhaps should not go. It's a barrage of funny, maddening, dramatic, comedic, political, and religious all within seconds of each other.
Don't figure it out
Not figuring it out requires no workarounds. No extra trips to Home Depot or Lowe’s; Just mindlessly find the part and replace it.
The world needs your creativity for the domains where you're at your best. You "figure it out" at the expense of your best efforts.
And they won't know why
Customers dislike the product or leave the service quietly. But they won't know why. They won't know why the atmosphere of the restaurant is not inviting; the guests will quietly become strangers and drift off to another dining experience. That song will not resonate, but in an invisible way--people will play it once, then move along to other songs that "hit" or "slap." The graphic design won't land correctly. The menu item won't be as well received as you imagined. But they won't know why.
The Storm vs. The Port
Don't rock the boat vs. Navigate toward good
These two goals are wildly different.
The Ideas
What ideas are you entertaining today? The thoughts that are growing in your mind, are they positive and powerful thoughts? Or are they vice, weakness, and distraction?
GOOD
Who are the people you follow online who inspire and change you? Jocko is one of those people for me. There's always something to be thankful for. When you're in the heat of the battle in a workout, be thankful that your heart, lungs, and knees work.
Today's a great day to say GOOD.

The CRUNCH
“With every big decision, there usually comes the excitement of choosing, the excitement of the new, but then the crash of real life.”
The end of social media?
With our social media services and new information like The Social Network, we know that social media is actively and secretly trying to control our behavior. It knows who you're in proximity to at the coffee shop and who you have over to your house.
